The Tunisian government has launched a blockchain-based diploma verification system to combat the widespread use of fake educational documents. This initiative aims to enhance the integrity of academic credentials and ensure transparency in employment processes.
According to reports, Tunisia began implementing the Unified Arab System for Diploma Authenticity Verification (UASDAV) on February 28, 2024. The system digitally stores each diploma as a secure and tamper-proof block, preventing alterations or forgeries. This move follows a 2023 probe by the Tunisian Association for the Fight Against Corruption, which estimated that between 121,000 and 200,000 government employees had used fake diplomas to gain employment between 2011 and 2023.

The Tunisian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has prioritized digital diploma verification as part of its broader education sector modernization project. This effort aligns with a cooperation agreement with the Arab League Educational, Cultural, and Scientific Organization (ALECSO).
